Starr Nursery is located on the outskirts of Tucson.  We have been growing desert adapted plants from the southwestern United States and northern Mexico since our birth on July 1, 1985.

Recently the focus has shifted to include more unusual forms of Agave species along with the "leafy" plants.  We are also concentrating on other members of the The Agave family or Agavaceae and the Nolinaceae.  Other genera in the Agavaceae include Beschorneria, Hesperaloe, Manfreda, Polianthes, and Yucca.  Some genera in the Nolinaceae we grow are Beaucarnea, Calibanus, Dasylirion, and Nolinaclick here to view the current availability list.  Keep in mind that work on the website is still in progress. The availability list is growing, and we are working on a photo gallery.

Terms:  We currently accept payment by check or money order.

Cultivation:  Many Agave species are suitable for container culture in all parts of the United States.  All will tolerate the confined root space of containers, and many will even remain more compact than those grown in the ground.  Most species grow best when given some midday shade or afternoon shade.  With a couple exceptions, Agaves can be grown in a commercial cactus mix amended with coarse sand. Trial and error is usually the best way to find out how to grow a particular plant in your area.
