While not complete, this page is devoted to
the Agaves found in the Tehuacán Valley and the state of Oaxaca, Mexico.
The photos are arranged alphabetically, not according to botanical
relationships. That is for another section of the website. As of January
2005, the photos are compiled from 3 separate trips to the area. Those
marked with an asterisk (*) in the text section were taken by George Hull
from Mountain States Wholesale Nursery. Click on the thumbnail to see the

Agave guiengola pictures are from the type locality near Guiengola,
Oaxaca
Agave isthmensis pictures were taken at the type locality along the
southern Oaxacan coast.
The first two Agave macroacantha pictures were taken in the open,
arid region between Tehuacán, Puebla and Huajuapan de León, Oaxaca. The
rest were taken in a semi-forested area near Teotitlan in northern Oaxaca.
The first two Agave marmorata pictures show a green form from southern Oaxaca, while the others show a gray, banded leaf form from the more xeric region between Tehuacán, Puebla and Huajuapan de León, Oaxaca.
The Agave potatorum pictures show representatives from throughout much of its range in Oaxaca.
The pictures of Agave titanota are
from the Rancho Tambor area. At least that is we were told by the locals. As
you can see by the picture labeled Rancho Tambor, it is a densely vegetated
site. The day we visited was quite cloudy also. The first 2 pictures were
taken with a digital camera and actually show the color to be truer to what
we actually saw. The next 5 pictures were taken with Sensia 100 slide film
and are bluer than the true color. The last 4 pictures are of plants growing
along the toll road between Tehuacán, Puebla and Oaxaca city
